Prestige Ford in Garland Texas is joining forces with the Light Up To Live Foundation to help Veterans and returning military men and women from active duty. Prestige Ford is a proud supporter of both our Veterans and First Responders and believes in doing all we can to stand behind those who work to serve our country and community.

Prestige Ford is providing sponsorship support to the Valor charity weekend of events. Their highlighted support will be going to the Valor Clay Shoot on September 22, 2018.

The Light Up To Live Foundation is a non-profit charity dedicated to assisting military men and women in active duty and those returning home. The foundation offers monitory support, medical consultation and life changing assistance to those suffering with conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Whether it is one of our annual events, providing a donation or giving back by volunteering man hours for this enlightening cause, Light Up to Live has a variety of opportunities to help our heroes.

The Light Up to Live 2018 Valor Charity Events:

Light Up To Live has partnered up with Operation Rock the Troops for a trifecta weekend of events, the Valor Events will be taking place September 21-22, 2018. The weekend of events includes:

  • Valor Golf Tournament at the Cowboys Golf Club located at 1600 Fairway Dr. in Grapevine, Texas, on September 21
  • Valor Clay Shoot Tournament at the Elm Fork Shooting Sports Range located at 10751 Luna Rd. Dallas, Texas on September 22
  • Valor Black-Tie Ball At the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center located on 1501 Gaylord Trail in Grapevine, Texas, on September 22

All proceeds for these events will be raising awareness and funds to support the rehabilitation and medical needs of our military Veterans returning home after active duty.

Prestige Ford Donates to Back to School Supplies Drive

Randall Reed’s Prestige Ford believes it is crucial to support and give back to our kids and community. The Garland Ford dealership was proud to donate $500 for the Garland Chamber of Commerce’s School Supplies Drive.

Prestige Ford was happy to donate to the Garland Chamber of Commerce school supply drive for Daugherty Elementary. Their goal is to provide filled backpacks to each student and a gift basket to each teacher on the campus as they are in need of assistance.

The young professionals group, Propel, is hosting a school supply drive for Daugherty Elementary, a Garland ISD campus. Daugherty was selected because of its ratio of Title I students and the lack of community support the students currently receive. Their goal is to provide filled backpacks to each student and a gift basket to each teacher on the campus, and they need your help!

The drive ends on July 27 with a backpack stuffing event for our young professionals.

Ford Announces CO2 Manufacturing Reduction 8 Years Early

Ford Reduces CO2 Manufacturing Eight Years Earlier Than ExpectedHere at Prestige Ford, we try to be environmentally conscious as possible, which is why we are always excited to share positive environmental news from Ford Motor Company. The company recently announced that as part of its 19th annual Sustainability Report it has met its goal to reduce CO2 manufacturing emissions – eight years ahead of schedule.

In 2010, Ford’s Environmental Quality Office announced that it would reduce the company’s carbon dioxide emissions from manufacturing operations by 30 percent per vehicle produced by 2025.

Ford hit its target twice as fast as expected and the results were dramatic with a global CO2 manufacturing emissions reduction of more than 3.4 million metric tons from 2010 to 2017 – equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions from more than 728,000 passenger vehicles driven for one year.

“We are proud of the work we have done to achieve this goal,” said Bruce Hettle, group vice president, manufacturing and labor affairs. “We’ve made several improvements to our manufacturing operations – from the lighting we use to plant consolidations – all of which played a role in dramatically reducing our CO2 footprint.”

Ford reduced its emissions footprint through energy conservation and efficiency changes at Ford’s manufacturing facilities, such as installing more than 100,000 LED light fixtures and updating paint operations.

“Painting operations use a large amount of energy,” said Andy Hobbs, director, environmental quality office. “Introducing technology that allows wet-on-wet paint application and eliminates a drying oven, in more plants has significantly decreased energy use while maintaining quality.”

Minimum Quantity Lubrication is another energy-reducing technology. In MQL, a machining tool is lubricated with a very small amount of oil sprayed directly on the tip of the tool in a finely atomized mist, instead of with a large quantity of coolant/water mixture.

Ford is now working on setting a new goal that’s focused on renewable energy.

“We will continue to set ambitious goals and work to create innovative practices to achieve them,” said Hettle. “Our next strategy will focus on increasing Ford’s use of renewable energy while maintaining our energy efficiencies.”

Ford remains focused on reducing vehicle emissions by doing its share to deliver on CO2 reductions consistent with the Paris Climate Accord. The company is charting its course for the future by investing $11 billion to put 40 hybrid and fully electric vehicle models on the road by 2022.

Now, it’s time to celebrate food, because well, we love food. Seriously, we LOVE food. We consider ourselves foodies of the highest stature. Which is why we have put together this food guide on local establishments in and around the Dallas area that we think are perfect little spots for the weekend Ford warrior who likes to visit and try new places. So sit back, relax, get ready to get a little hungry and let’s get down to the nitty-gritty.

The Prestige Ford Favorite Food Guide

Dallas, Texas

Place: The Slow Bone

Need to Know: The Slow Bone is a BBQ joint located off Irving Blvd. near downtown Dallas. They are known for their Fried Chicken and Sides, and boy do they have some good sides.

Staff Pick: Get the fried chicken. Holy moly, it is fantastic. Juicy through and through and chalked full of mouth-savoring flavor, this fried chicken will make you forget about all those “other” fried chicken places.

Lakewood Area/East Dallas

Place: Cane Rosso

Need to Know: Cane Rosso is a pizzaria featuring Neapolitan style pizza. Led by Executive Chef and Master Pizzaiolo, Dino Santonicola, Cane Rosso offers a plethora of authentic toppings and wood-fired pizzas to choose from in a trendy environment.

Staff Pick: We recommend the off-the-menu pie that starts with “Honey” and ends with… well, we can’t tell you what it ends with since some might view it as derogatory. But trust that if you ask for the “Honey Brisket” pizza, they’ll know EXACTLY what you’re talkin’ about.

Garland, Texas

Place: Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery

Need to Know: The guys over at Intrinsic love brewing and smoking meats. And it shows in their beer and BBQ, which can range from smoked brisket and Texas inspired BBQ ramen to smoked mac & cheese and corn fritters. Intrinsic is a “funky, industrial-chic environment” located in downtown Garland.

Staff Pick: You can’t beat Texas brisket and the same can be said with Intrinsic’s Texas staple. Juicy, tender with a great smoked crust, this little slice of heaven satisfies the Texas soul and spirit. Pair with a Chubby Unicorn IPA!

Location: 509 W State St., Garland, TX 75040

 

Rowlett, Texas

Place: Bankhead Brewing Co.

Need to Know: Bankhead is a brewery and restaurant located in the heart of downtown Rowlett with food ranging from wood-fired pizzas, burgers and sandwiches, apps and salads and entrees. Sit in their modern-chic dining hall and enjoy delicious food with a homemade brew and views of the brewery or sports games.

Staff Pick: We can’t get enough of the prosciutto wrapped jalapeños stuffed with chorizo, cilantro puree, mascarpone and finished with a balsamic glaze. Pairs nicely with a Godfather pizza (featuring house meatballs, ricotta, garlic marinara, basil) and a Mile Market Series New England IPA.

Rockwall, Texas

Place: Gloria’s Latin Cuisine

Need to Know: Gloria’s is a family-friendly chain featuring a menu of Salvadoran and Tex-Mex favorites, as well as their signature margaritas and mojitos. The Rockwall restaurant, located in the Harbor, features scenic views of Lake Ray Hubbard from the patio.

Staff Pick: While there is plenty of awesome choices to choose from on the menu, we like to keep it simple with the steak nachos. Tender, juicy steak atop the Monterey Jack cheese and black beans really hits the spot. Pair with a Signature or Mango Margarita and you’re in business. Stay and chat awhile or take the one minute walk around the corner to see a movie at the Cinemark.

Richardson, Texas

Place: Frankie’s Mexican Cuisine

Need to Know: Frankie’s serves classic, you guessed it, Mexican cuisine with some Tex-Mex sprinkled throughout. Their menu includes delicious staples like housemade tamales and brisket tacos served in a modern, rustic, yet quaint space.

Staff Pick: Hands down it has to be the Clemente’s Enchiladas. You get two chicken enchiladas smothered with your choice of chipotle or tomatillo sauce (chipotle all the way) topped with two eggs over easy and served with rice and beans. Pair with a house margarita and winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Plano, Texas

Place: Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar

Need to Know: The Whiskey Cake is a contemporary industrial-style farm to table venue for “New American plates.” The fresh menu is smaller than most, but don’t let that fool you. Every item is top-notch and in this case it’s quality over quantity. Whiskey Cake also has a huge whiskey cocktail and beer menu.

Staff Pick: Start with the Local Goat Cheese Fondue. The olive oil, Greek olives, roasted tomatoes, fresh herbs and grilled sourdough will leave you wanting way more than you can probably eat. Then try the Pork Ramen, which you can’t beat even in the Texas summer heat. The Pork Ramen is pork broth, braised pork, quail egg, basil, Sriracha and nori. Stay for the Whiskey Cake. We can’t even begin to explain how good this stuff is. Seriously mouth-watering down to the last course.

Ford Hires New Honeybee Workers At World Headquarters

At Prestige Ford in Garland, we recognize how important it is to reduce our footprint and advance sustainability efforts in our community. We are BEEyond (couldn’t resist) thrilled to see Ford launch its new global beekeeping program with six new honeybee hives at its Dearborn World Headquarters in support of honeybee populations, the local ecosystem, and gardening and farming communities.

“Sustainability is more than improving fuel economy and reducing waste,” says Kim Pittel, Ford group vice president, sustainability, environment and safety engineering. “It’s about improving the environment we live in for all, and that includes honeybees, pollinators and the ecosystems that depend on them.”

According to the nonprofit, Pollinator Partnership, honeybees are essential to the world’s food supply and are in dire need of help.

The six new hives will be situated inside a walking path extension north of Ford World Headquarters. Ford employees who initiated the program will serve as beekeepers managing the hives. This effort builds on Ford’s beekeeping initiative at the historic Rouge factory in 2016.

Adding a creative flourish to the installation, the Langstroth hives the bees reside in will be beautified by special hive shells imagined by Ford’s own designers, who participated in a unique competition to see who could come up with the most aesthetically pleasing and functional home for the bees.

Over a dozen design concepts were submitted, spanning a variety of formats and employing numerous materials ranging from wood, plant matter, acrylic, ceramics, mill foam, fiberglass and metal. In the end, the concept of Chris Westfall, a designer of vehicle interiors, was chosen for its overall benefits to colony health. Titled, “Honeycomb Sail,” the design features two sails that wrap around each beehive to provide a peaceful space away from the elements. The design takes cues from both bee wings and a thick drop of honey. One side allows for easy access by the beekeeper and the other entrance is sized just for the bees.

Ford beekeepers will provide data on the 360,000 total honeybees expected to inhabit all six hives as the colonies grow to their full potential of 60,000 bees per hive by the height of summer to the Sentinel Apiary Program, a collective of nearly 70 beekeepers from 26 states who track honeybee health and diseases nationally.

Ford, Postmates Pair to Bring Autonomous Food Delivery System

Postmates, Ford and… Tacos!!!

It’s a familiar feeling. The day inches towards dinner and your stomach makes a simple, direct plea to your heart: You want tacos. That hand pressed corn tortilla, the tangy salsa and fresh cilantro — you’re getting hungry already!

But what if ordering tacos did more than just satisfy the gremlin in your gut? What if it actually…shaped the future?

Ford is working with Postmates, an on-demand delivery platform, to operate a self-driving delivery service.

Our Postmates pilot is currently underway in Miami and Miami Beach with more than 70 businesses participating, including local favorites like Coyo Taco. For residents in the area, when you order tacos — or almost anything, really — through Postmates, you may be given the option to have your items delivered by a self-driving research vehicle.

What does that mean? It’s easier to show than to tell, so let’s examine the future of food delivery enabled by self-driving technology.

Some things don’t change — when your meal is ready to be delivered, a restaurant employee will place it in the vehicle. (Surprise! You ordered tacos.)

We designed a Transit Connect for this pilot program with a locker system to secure your food and allow us to serve multiple customers on one delivery route.
