Today, Ford Motor Company executives awarded multiple awards to Randall Reed, owner; Justin Wright, General Manager/Operating Partner and the Prestige Ford team. We are proud to share that yet again, the Dallas-area dealership received back-to-back Triple Crown Awards and its seventh consecutive President’s Award from Ford Motor Company.

Summer Safety Tips for You and Your Family

Ready to hop in your Ford and head out for adventure? Before you do, there are a few quick safety tips to keep in mind for your adventures around town and on the road. Randall Reed’s Prestige Ford in Garland, Texas is here to help ensure that you and your family stay safe this summer with some great tips.

Splish Splash Water Adventures

Heading out to the lake or the local water park? Before you go, here are some water safety tips courtesy of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • Always supervise children when in or around water. A responsible adult should constantly watch young children.
  • Teach kids to swim. Formal swimming lessons can protect young children from drowning.
  • Learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Your CPR skills could save someone’s life. Click here to find your local American Red Cross CPR course.
  • Install a fence around home pools.

Recreational boating and lake trips can be a fun way to spend time outdoors with friends and family. Make boating safety a priority and be sure to wear a properly fitted life jacket each time you and your loved ones are on the water.

Heat Alert

Did you know that infants and children up to 4 years of age are at the greatest risk for heat-related illnesses? However, nobody is immune. The CDC recommends taking these steps to prevent heat-related illnesses:

  • Never leave infants, children, or pets in a parked car, even if the windows are cracked open.
  • Dress infants and children in loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Schedule outdoor activities carefully, for morning and evening hours.
  • Stay cool with cool showers or baths.
  • Seek medical care immediately if you or your child have symptoms of heat-related illness.

Summer Sun Requires SPF

Putting the top down is fun, but you need to watch out for the sun! The CDC states that just a few serious sunburns can put you and your child at an increased risk for skin cancer later on in life. That’s why it’s vital to apply (and reapply) sunscreen to protect you and your loved one’s skin from the harmful UV rays when enjoying the outdoors. The CDC recommends:

  • Cover up. Clothing that covers your and your child’s skin helps protect against UV rays.
  • Use sunscreen with at least SPF (sun protection factor) 15 and UVA (ultraviolet A) and UVB (ultraviolet B) protection, a.k.a. a broad spectrum sunscreen, each time you and your child go outside.

Fireworks Fun

We all love to ooh and ahh at fireworks, but some things are better left to the professionals. However, we realize that many of you may enjoy your own fireworks this summer, so we’re here to give you a few tips on fireworks safety with the National Safety Council.   • Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
  • Older children should use them only under close adult supervision.
  • Never hold lit fireworks in your hands.
  • Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding.
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don’t go off or in case of fire.

Summer Heat Safety with Our Furry Friends

If you’re like many of us at Prestige Ford in Garland, Texas, your pet is a member of the family. You want to do all you can to help them stay safe and healthy – especially during the hot summertime in Texas. So, we wanted to share a few helpful tips to help beat the heat for your furry friends whether you’re on the road or at home.

Hot Topic

To keep your pet safe from overheating, take these precautions provided by ASPCA experts:

Visit your Vet for pre-heat season check-up: Make sure your pet’s heart-worm test is up to date if they’re not on year-round preventative medication.

Plenty of Water: Dehydration can happen quickly in our furry friends, so make sure they have plenty of shade to rest and water to drink.

Know the Symptoms of Overheating: excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased heart and respiratory rate, drooling, mild weakness, stupor or even collapse. Symptoms can also include seizures, bloody diarrhea and vomit along with an elevated body temperature of over 104 degrees.

Watch their Paws on Asphalt: When the temperature is high your pet’s paw pads can burn and being so close to the ground your pet’s body can heat up quickly.

Did you Know? Animals with flat faces, like Pugs and Persian cats, are more susceptible to heat stroke since they cannot pant as effectively. These pets, along with the elderly, the overweight, and those with heart or lung diseases, should be kept cool in air-conditioned rooms as much as possible.

Car Heat & Travel Safety

NEVER leave your animal alone in a parked vehicle: Not only is it illegal in some states, but it can lead to a fatal heat stroke.

Keep your pets safe and secure: Whether you have a custom seat-belt, car-seat or carrier for your dog. It is always a good idea for them to be buckled-up just like you!

Pack a pet traveling kit: Before you hit the open road make sure you have your pet’s essentials of food, water, leash, waste bags, medication. Your pet would also probably love a packed toy or bone.

Ford Ranked in Top 5 Brands According to J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Thanks to the success to overall quality improvements that are outpacing the industry. In the  J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study  Ford has been ranked among the top five automotive brands in the United States.

J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, now in its 33rd year, the study measures vehicle quality by analyzing problems reported by owners in the first 90 days of ownership.

Drive 4 UR School and Support Garland High School DECA

Prestige Ford proudly presents Drive 4 DECA at Garland High School. Help us support our local students by coming to test drive a new Ford vehicle at Garland High School. For every test drive, Ford will donate $20 to Garland High School’s DECA.

When: Thursday, September 26th 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Who: Anyone 18 years or older with a valid Texas Driver’s License

What is DECA?

DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Ford’s Cellular Vehicle to Everything Technology  (C-V2X )

If you keep up on car tech talk, you’ve probably heard about Cellular Vehicle to Everything Technology, or C-V2X. There are a lot of ideas and promises attached to this technology but as Don Butler, Executive Director, Ford Connected Vehicle Platform and Product, shares in a recent Medium article – it’s a daunting task.

If anyone can do it, Ford can. The Ford engineering team is creating new C-V2X innovations in addition to developing their core technologies.

At the Intelligent Transportation Society of America annual meeting in Washington, D.C. earlier this month, Ford demonstrated two advancements in Cellular Vehicle to Everything Technology (C-V2X). One of the advancements demonstrated is a roadside unit that allows communications between vehicles and other road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and e-scooter riders using different wireless technologies.  The other major advancement is an unalterable blockchain-based system that assists vehicles in negotiating the right of way at multi-way intersections for efficient traffic flow.

Advanced Roadside Communication

Vehicles equipped with C-V2X can communicate with other road users, such as pedestrians, scooter riders and others if they ‘speak’ the same technological language. This allows these C-V2X vehicles to determine the other users’ intended paths. If these other road users intend to cross their path, C-V2X vehicles can avoid a potential risk by ‘speaking’ to users, or if they do not speak the same language, the vehicles can translate signals from various wireless technologies, such as Bluetooth, to avoid collisions.

Navigating with Blockchain

Consider a future where we have human drivers alongside autonomous vehicles. What will happen when these vehicles approach a multi-way stop? We will no longer be able to wave at the next driver signaling that it’s their turn to go. However, this is where the blockchain technology becomes crucial. This unalterable blockchain-based system would allow road users to ‘discuss’ who will be entering the intersection and when. This ‘conversation’ happens so quickly, within a fraction of a second, so there would not be any delay while at the intersection. This technology would increase safety, efficiency, and security.

The Fusion of Ford and Argo AI

Randall Reed’s Prestige Ford in Garland, Texas has some Ford-tastic news! Self-driving cars may be closer to consumer use than we initially anticipated, thanks to the Argo AI and Ford collaboration. The Ford Fusion Hybrid is the third-generation test vehicle for the self-driving vehicles project.

Advanced Tech

This third-generation Ford Fusion Hybrid has been redeveloped to be equipped with advanced technology. Argo AI and Ford have modified the third-generation test vehicles with a significantly upgraded sensor suite that consists of new sets of radars and cameras with higher resolution and higher dynamic range. As a result of the higher resolution and the upgraded software, the Fusion Hybrid test vehicle is better at detecting and classifying what’s ahead at greater distances than before.

Another new upgrade for the third-generation test vehicles is the brand-new computing system. This system offers far more processing power than the previous generations. The upgraded computing system has improved thermal management systems that produce less heat and noise for riders in the vehicle. Thus, a smarter, quieter vehicle has been born.

Quite possibly one of the most important features, Argo AI has equipped the Fusion Hybrid test vehicles with redundant braking and steering systems that aid in maintaining vehicle control in case of emergency. These systems serve as precautionary measures in the event that the units function fail to ensure they may safely brake or pull over as necessary.

Argo AI and Ford have been testing this autonomous Fusion Hybrid in major cities Argo AI is operating in such as Miami, Palo Alto, Washington D.C., Pittsburgh and Detroit. Testing in Detroit provides an advantage to Argo AI and Ford as Ford has engineering operations and serves as the base for Ford’s self-driving efforts. Additionally, Detroit roads are not uniform with defining aspects such as the roads are in Washington D.C. or Pittsburgh. Detroit’s roads may have roundabouts, multi-point intersections, unmarked roads and more. These factors challenge the test vehicles and force them to reason through navigating these obstacles while also predicting the moves of other drivers.
