Mustang Turns 60 & Turns Up Pony Power

Sixty years never looked so good… and the 2024 Ford Mustang is getting a little flash back and it rolls into the future in celebration of its pony-power heritage. Our team at Planet Ford 635 in Garland is excited to share this 60th anniversary news.

New Mustang Heritage Gauge Cluster

Through software updates, Ford is giving 2024 Ford Mustang customers the ability to select a heritage-inspired 1967-1968 gauge cluster that combines the best parts of Mustang throughout the years for a timeless, classic feel.

Hundreds of individual Mustang gauge clusters spanning multiple iconic years were evaluated to create this new Heritage Gauge Cluster. A realistic chrome render wraps these gauges, just like the polished metal used in 1967-1968.

The update is rolling out now. For customers, don’t forget that to receive this and future updates, turn ‘On’ Automatic Software Updates and set a recurring schedule in the Software Updates Settings menu.

Amid the roar of engines at the iconic Charlotte Motor Speedway, Ford is about to hit the accelerator on a new Mustang experience – with owners and fans at the center of it all.

The Mustang Experience Center, set to open next year, will be the destination for all things Mustang, whether it’s hitting the track, snagging some merch, or soaking in the rich six-decade history of Mustang.

“Mustang has always been about more than just the car; it’s the experiences that come with it, from road trips to track days to cars & coffee. Mustang Experience Center is poised to become a special gathering place for the Mustang community, weaving the spirit of the car and Charlotte Motor Speedway together to create new memories.”-Matt Simpson, Ford Enthusiast Vehicles general manager

The addition of the Mustang Experience Center is also driving an expansion of hands-on track instruction at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Ford Performance Racing School’s Mustang Unleashed, a new program for Mustang EcoBoost and GT, builds on the Dark Horse Track Attack program so all 2024 Mustang owners can learn how to get the most fun and performance out of their cars.

Adjacent to the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Mustang Experience Center’s blend of automotive culture and celebration will feature a Ford Heritage Gallery to celebrate all 60 years of Mustang history, an aftermarket parts shop, retail store for Mustang merchandise, and conference space for corporate events. The Mustang Experience Center can even host weddings, because like the car it celebrates, it’s about creating great memories.

Spanning nearly 2,000 acres, the Charlotte Motor Speedway boasts a 2.25-mile road course and a quarter-mile oval nestled within its 1.5-mile Superspeedway. The speedway also offers a four-tenths clay oval, the renowned four-wide zMAX Dragway, and the exciting addition of a new 1.7-mile road course set to open this quarter.

The Mustang Experience Center joins other unique Ford owner experiences like F-150 and Ranger Raptor Assault School and Bronco Off-Roadeo, the latter which recently opened to non-owners.

Sixty years and seven generations after the Ford Mustang debuted at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, Ford is celebrating the heritage of one of the most iconic vehicles in automotive history with a limited-edition Mustang 60th Anniversary package.

The Ford Mustang 60th Anniversary package is only available for the GT Premium with 5.0-liter V8 and will be available on both coupe and convertible models with either manual or automatic transmissions.

Building upon the iconic design cues that have defined the Mustang, it features a unique dash plaque and exclusive exterior features that create a special look and feel that brings classic accents of the original car that debuted in 1964 into the modern era.

“The design was directly inspired by the clean silhouette of the original car,” said Stefan Taylor, senior designer. “During the design process, we looked closely at the finely detailed elements of the 1965 Mustang, like the fender badges and wheel center caps. Our focus was capturing the feel of the ‘65, while also staying true to the Mustang as the modern sports car that it is.”
