Randall Reed’s Planet Ford 635 was excited to learn about and support the Garland 9th Street Gym Project in downtown Garland, TX. Sheena Sharapata, Community Marketing & Events and Isabella Acosta, Planet Ford 635 Marketing Intern, from the Gilbreath-Reed Career and Technical Center from Amy Bauer’s class.
Isabella is currently a Garland ISD Senior in DECA (future business and marketing students) and has qualified for State.
Sheena and Isabella are working on getting bios on the talented Garland ISD students boxing in the gym. Many of the students have grown up in the gym training and a few are Olympic hopefuls.
Planet Ford 635 is working on supporting another boxing event so many of the local students can get matches under their belt and compete. The goal is to spread awareness on this program in the Garland community that was started originally in 1995 by Lt. Swavey and Officer Martin as part of intervention/prevention program while they were members of the police gang unit. The program has since grown to over 200+ students for boxing and/or karate that assists the kids who are searching for acceptance, companionship, recognition and the feeling of belonging in a safe setting.
On top of the Garland 9th Street Boxing Gym, there are some Incredible ideas in the works collaborating with Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas and the Garland Police Never Walk Alone Foundation.
The Planet Ford 635 5-0 Clay Shoot benefiting the Garland Police Never Walk Alone Foundation is on March 24th, 2023 at Texas Gun Ranch.
The Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing immediate financial assistance to the families of fallen police officers and firefighters lost in the line of duty. The Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas also contributes to children’s charities supported by local police and fire departments. | https://www.gunsandhosesnorthtx.org/
The Garland Police Never Walk Alone Foundation Mission: If a Garland police officer or those who work for the Garland Police Department suffers any type of catastrophic illness or injury (on or off duty), the Foundation has been set up to help an employee and their family cope with some of the financial hardship. Initial assistance may be provided to help with the employee or their family’s current situation. The assistance could also be through programs set up both for mental awareness or physical ailments. | http://garlandpolicefoundation.org/
