Since it’s introduction on April 17th, 1964, the Mustang has had an interesting history as it gained status as one of the most iconic cars in American history.
Mustang fanatics know this better than anyone, and many of them are teaming up to give the Mustang a proper birthday celebration. In fact, members of Mustangs Across America (MAA) are organizing a massive cross-country caravan to create one of the largest automotive celebrations that this country has ever seen.
Most importantly, they have included Dallas as one of their stops on April 13th/14th (see full schedule below). During the week leading up to the big birthday celebration, over 500 Mustangs will make the journey from Corona, California all the way to the Mustang Club’s 50th Birthday Celebration at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The seven-day trip will begin at the home of famed car builder Steve Saleen and will stop in several American cities before reaching it’s final destination. Here’s a brief look at the Drive Schedule:
Day 1: April 10, 2014: Los Angeles, CA to Phoenix, AZ via I-10, lunch stop in Blythe, CA
Day 2: April 11, 2014: Phoenix, AZ to Las Cruces, NM via I-10, lunch stop in Wilcox, AZ
Day 3: April 12, 2014: Las Cruces, NM to Midland, TX via I-10 and I-20, stops in Van Horn, TX and Pecos, TX
Day 4: April 13, 2014: Midland, TX to Dallas, TX via I-20, lunch stop in Abilene, TX
Day 5 – April 14, 2014: Dallas, TX to Jackson, MS via I-20, lunch top in Bossier City, LA
Day 6 – April 15, 2014: Jackson, MS to Atlanta, GA via I-20/Loop285, lunch stop in Tuscaloosa, AL
Day 7 – April 16, 2014: Atlanta, GA to Charlotte, NC via I-85, lunch stop in Greenville, SC
Take note of the event’s time in Texas. The caravan will be rolling into Dallas on April 13th, which could provide quite the site to see has over 500 Mustangs will be in attendance. Such an event holds historical significance for MAA, who has grown the event from about 200 participants to over 500 in just a mere 20 years. “Mustangs Across America has always been the ‘Drive Of A Lifetime’. We are proud to continue to carry that mantle”, says event coordinator Sam Haymart. “This event is the big one for the 50th and our plans will reflect the moment in history as we pull out all the stops.”
