This month at Randall Reed’s Prestige Ford in Garland, we are going red for women. You may not know it, but heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women — more than all cancers combined.
This month, when you visit Prestige and get an oil change, you will receive a Go Red pendant* and information from the American Heart Association with tips to keep handy about heart attacks, strokes and keeping yourself healthy. Plus, we invite you to Go Red on Feb. 7th to show your support and help remind those around you about how serious their heart health is.
Take a look at this vid starring Emmy-nominated actress Elizabeth Banks. It’s a little film about a super mom who takes care of everyone except herself. You may identify all to well with these mommy moments, but more over, while it may make you giggle, it has some life-saving information that you should share.
We encourage you to learn about more heart disease as a means to prevent a potentially life-threatening condition. Ms. Banks’ video features one of many conditions that fall under heart and cardiovascular disease. Coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmia, and cardiac arrest are also included and can also cause or contribute to life-threatening heart conditions.
Knowledge about heart disease is crucial. Knowing the symptoms and causes, in addition to taking preventative measures, can significantly reduce the likelihood of heart disease. The video above notes some of the symptoms of heart attacks (chest pain, jaw/neck/back discomfort, feeling light-headed, shortness of breath) but there are also some important prevention tips:
- Know your body. Keep track of cholesterol and blood pressure levels and do your best to keep them at healthy levels.
- Avoid smoking and keep alcohol intake at a moderate level.
- Exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, and maintaining a healthy weight are all proven to reduce the risk of heart disease.
- Stress management is often overlooked. Stress can be a good thing, but managing it improperly can put unnecessary strain on your ticker.
