Keep your teen safe with MyKey
We all want to keep our families safe. That’s especially the case with teen drivers. Today’s teens are surrounded by so many different distractions it’s tough for them to keep their focus. So how can you keep your teen safe while they’re driving their vehicle? With the help of Ford’s MyKey.
One of the latest technologies to come to Dallas area Ford dealers, the MyKey system will soon be available on various models. MyKey allows the owners to program a vehicle’s key that will limit the vehicle’s top speed and audio volume. It also encourages drivers to fasten their seatbelts, helps with fuel economy, and can be programmed to sound chimes at 45, 55 and 65 miles per hour.
In a recent survey conducted by Ford, over half of the parents surveyed worry that their teen-age children are driving at unsafe speeds, talking on their mobile phones or texting while driving, all of which can lead to distracted and dangerous driving. More than a third of parents are also concerned that their teens do not always buckle their seatbelts when driving. MyKey enables parents to have peace of mind, even if their teen is driving a new mustang.
Features of MyKey include:
- Limited top speed of 80 mph
- The traction control system, which limits tire spin, cannot be deactivated
- Limited audio volume to 44 percent of the max volume
- A speed alert chime at 45, 55 or 65 mph
- Persistent Ford Beltminder™ which mutes the radio and sounds a chime until the seatbelt is fastened
- Earlier low-fuel warning – at 75 miles to empty instead of 50
The upside for teen drivers with MyKey is that it provides them with more driving freedom. If parents are no longer concerned that their teen is too distracted while driving, they will be more likely to let him or her drive more often. Teens get more driving privileges, and parents get the comfort of knowing their child is safe.
If you’re looking for your next vehicle, whether it’s for your whole family or just your child, stop by and test drive a new Ford F150, Focus or Fiesta and learn more about MyKey. You’ll be glad you did.
